Mysty's Bow Tutorial

by Storme Designs

Feel free to share this tutorial keeping the credit with it.

First open a new image.

I like a large work surface, but can use smaller image.

I always open a new layer.  If you do not like something or want to

redo it, it's much easier when every section is on a different layer.

You can name each layer for your convenience.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Choose the color you would like your bow to be.  Open your
Preset Shapes tool and set it to ellipse.  I used 15 width, but you
can use what you like.  Put the background style to Nil, the
circle with the slash as below.   Draw your ellipse similar to
the ones below.  You can copy and paste that one as a new
layer or draw another ellipse.
bowmystyshapewh.jpg (20221 bytes)
You can leave as is or apply an inner bevel.  You could use
either Eye Candy  or PSP's inner bevel, which I used for
this one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now click the arrows under styles, as on the image below,

and your color will be on the bottom and the Nil on top.

Click on a new raster layer naming it Knot.  It's up

to you if you want to name each layer as you go.

Click on your shapes tool again.  Using the Ellipse shape

draw a smaller ellipse in the middle of your two original

ellipses.  This will be the middle, KNOT, of your bow.

Again, you can leave as is or bevel it.  I prefer

beveling as you can see in the image below.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now you can skip the next part with two additional
ellipses and go onto the ribbons or add a middle bow.
Click on a New Layer, you can name it middle.
If adding, open your Preset shapes tool set to Ellipse
as in the beginning.  Click the arrows back to the color being
on top under styles.  Draw an ellipse in the middle, as seen
below.  You can bevel it or leave as is.  You can copy and
paste it to the other side or draw another ellipse.
Now Click on your layer palette, which is the red and blue
rectangles on your tool bar or go to View on your tool bar
and click on toolbars at the bottom.  When the box pops up,
you would look for layer palette near the bottom and click the
small box and an arrow should appear, and when you close the
box the layer palette will appear.
Now you put the arrow of the mouse on the layer box
as on layer 4 showing below and a white hand will appear,
as you drag the layer below the knot layer.  Do this with both
middle ellipses, if on different layers.
You're almost done!
Click on a new layer and name it ribbon.
Click on your Draw tool next, the one that looks like a pencil
with writing.  I used 3 width, but you can adjust to your
liking.  I used the freehand line, so I could make a little
wave look to my ribbon.
The shape and length is up to you. You can see
mine at the top of the page or in the graphic below.
I put a clipped look at the bottom.
You can bevel it or leave as is.  For this I would definitely
copy and paste, but you can draw on each side.
After you copy it, deselect it  and paste as new layer or new
selection.  Go to Image and click on Mirror.  The new ribbon
will be facing the opposite direction, you can now place it,
where you prefer.
Now move that layer or both ribbon layers below
the knot level or bow sides levels to create the look
you desire.
You can save it as a tube to add to your pictures or
what you prefer.
You can select Color, Colorize and make them different
colors.
I had created a bow to place on the graphic below and thought would
share the process for beginners.
